Idealists dream of creating harmonious, even caring personal relations, and they have a unique talent for helping people get along with each other and work together for the good of all. Such interpersonal harmony might be a romantic ideal, but then Idealists are incurable romantics who prefer to focus on what might be, rather than what is. The real, practical world is only a starting place for Idealists; they believe that life is filled with possibilities waiting to be realized, rich with meanings calling out to be understood. This idea of a mystical or spiritual dimension to life, the "not visible" or the "not yet" that can only be known through intuition or by a leap of faith, is far more important to Idealists than the world of material things.

    Highly ethical in their actions, Idealists hold themselves to a strict standard of personal integrity. They must be true to themselves and to others, and they can be quite hard on themselves when they are dishonest, or when they are false or insincere. More often, however, Idealists are the very soul of kindness. Particularly in their personal relationships, Idealists are without question filled with love and good will. They believe in giving of themselves to help others; they cherish a few warm, sensitive friendships; they strive for a special rapport with their children; and in marriage they wish to find a "soulmate," someone with whom they can bond emotionally and spiritually, sharing their deepest feelings and their complex inner worlds.

    Idealists are relatively rare, making up no more than 15 to 20 percent of the population. But their ability to inspire people with their enthusiasm and their idealism has given them influence far beyond their numbers.

    Princess Diana, Joan Baez, Albert Schweitzer, Bill Moyers, Eleanor Roosevelt, Mohandas Gandhi, Mikhael Gorbachev, and Oprah Winfrey are examples of Idealists.

  3. I would love to trial these tools in the classroom as one of the first 'get to know you' tools before I even start the unit. I think that if you can 'pidgeon hole' people first then you have a fair chance of engaging them in the learning environment.

  4. There have been a number of new tools introduced in this unit. One that has been talked about but as yet haven't visited is making a web page. Because we have played with a number of tools such as wiki and blogs, I have had the confidence to start a web page through the weebly. I have commenced a personal page and one for a group assignment from another unit. http://empoweringboys.weebly.com

    The idea is to explore putting information on a web page and creating links to other sights. The weebly program seems to be quite easy to manipulate.

    I learnt a few tricks of the trade on excel. It is possible to type a sentence in the excel boxes and have an automated voice speak the words. This would be ideal for students who have reading difficulty or visual impairment. I had a look at my version of excel but don't have this facility.

    The class looked at powerpoint and I added a few more functions to my repetiteur. The concept mapping tools with the connect dots were the main new ones. I have already made pp's with sound cues. It is nice to know that I am relatively savey on a number of programs.

    Next week we will be looking at movie making. This is an area that I have worked with before with my theatre group. I have taken the video, sound, photo's and created text and converted to a movie. I am confident with the program that I have worked with, however if there is a new program I will have to start all over again.

    A conversation with my mentor teacher about the use of blogs within the art classroom was that she was in favour of it generally however it would take five lessons to teach the students how to use the blog before we could go onto using them in the art room. This would take up our art teaching time. There are now 10 lap tops for the art room if we want to go down that path. There is also the Mentor teachers laptop which can connect to the overhead projector and can be used as an interactive whiteboard. I used this tool today to show images to the students. Light in the room is a problem if we wanted to see true colours of an image.

  5. Hi ,

    I have found this posting of your learning style to be very interesting. I believe that by having the students in the class to fill in a similar questionnaire however, adapted to suit the age of the child would be very beneficial to the teacher in finding out how the learners best learn (8LMQs). This would be best done at the beginning of the year so that lessons/units are tailored to suit individual learning styles. This then would likely engage and motivate most learners in the class from the outset.
